About the Symposium Efforts over the past 20 years to restore, salvage or revitalize North American Indigenous languages have remained largely ineffective, as made evident by the exceedingly small number of fluent second language speakers that have emerged in North America. This year's presenter list is based on April 2005 participant’s request, to bring together individuals who are effectively creating second language speakers for participants to learn how they can utilize these successes in their own efforts to keep their languages vigorous and healthy. |

About the Teacher Training WorkshopThe teacher-training workshop will guide language instructors through a method called Accelerated Second Language Acquisition©™. This method has broad application as a tool for language instruction across diverse languages and age groups, which will be illustrated with video footage of work with children and adult college classes. Dr. Greymorning developed this approach to specifically bring second language learners to a level of language competency while accommodating language instructors working with limited resources and time. By the end of the three-day training session participants will have developed a full year of language instructional materials structured toward creating second language speakers. Participants, if possible, should bring a lap top computer and come with the understanding that the three-day teacher training sessions will be work intensive, but also rewarding. Participants should note that if they are not fluent, than it is advised that a fluent speaker should also attend to assist them with language subtleties.
